A week of movement workshops, performances, and jams in sunny Los Angeles, California. The festival runs every January, celebrating and exploring the variety of improvisational movement techniques; featuring Contact Improvisation, partnering, improvisational performance structure, ensemble movement, and integrating sound, voice, theatre, sets and structures into performance. The iDfest aims to provide the best improvisational instruction from around the world, give local artists creative opportunities and outlets for development and growth, and to connect Los Angeles to the thriving international Contact Improvisation community.
iDfest hosts the In-Site Collaboration Performance: An exciting new approach to improvisational performance, which matches up renown artists from all over the world to collaborate on new improvisation structures, crossing disciplines, and creating new territory.
Somatic Movement Arts Festival
Making Faces Productions collaborates with Intention Dance Theatre on this week-long, multi-disciplinary movement festival celebrating Conscious Embodiment in Practice & Performance. SOMA Fest features artists from across the U.S. who offer opportunities for individuals from all walks of life to deepen Presence, Creativity and Ease-of-Movement. Somatic practices help amplify body-mind awareness and physical prowess. Key for dancers, movers, actors, performers and somatic practitioners in learning to enhance sensation, fluid strength, inner spaciousness,and articulation. SOMA Fest Performances present Kinesthetically charged contemporary and improvisational work from National and Local Artists.
Shout It Out is a theatre workshop series held for foster children, group homes, detention center and at risk youth programs ending in a performance; also available for in-school residencies. The purpose of the workshops is to build a confident voice for the youth who participate by providing a creative outlet for them to share their hopes, fears, visions, barriers, desires, and dreams in a safe and encouraging environment.
On Dry Ground Performance Project
Think with your body. Move with your mind. A completely innovative approach to exploring the Jewish tradition, seeking new ways to experience what's physical, intellectual, spiritual and playful all at the same time. The On Dry Ground Performance Project employs theatre, dance, and visual art to develop creative and meaningful ways to connect with Jewish roots.
A dance collective created and co-directed by Julia Ferguson, Sarri Sanchez, Ally Voye, Eva Wilder, and Maya Zellman.
Four kids journey across the United States, exploring the 50 states in a series of webisodes. In each state, the kids – alongside adult counselors – learn about different regions, cultures and traditions first-hand, by exploring the land, visiting cities and towns, and meeting local people. A positive reality webseries for and about tweeners, ages 8-12, WalkAbout combines travel with education, adventure and positive role models.
With a mission to deepen the awareness and connections within communities by offering creative movement as a meaningful life tool for health, growth and happiness, MUV uses dance and yoga to provide holistic learning experiences that integrate physical, intellectual, and social expression while restoring balance to the school or work day. Co-founders Michael Richter and Michele Bickley have over 20 years experience as arts educators and performers. They were most recently dance specialists with LAUSD’s Arts Prototype Program, teaching and mentoring in elementary schools throughout the district.
